colored greyscale images within rgb or cmyk color space

Hi

I have some grayscale images pasted as separate layers in a cmyk document. Is there a simple way to give them all the same color? The same visual result of what you would get with the duotone > monotone conversion. I tried the 'screen' blending mode of a solid color layer on top of the grayscale images, but the result is to light/soft.

Pasting the grayscale image inside a mask on a solid color layer gives a good result. For multiple grayscale images this approach is too laborious though.

If there was a way to have layers within a mask this would be the solution. Don't think this is possible, right?

TIA

Fons
